From a fellow Greyhound owner
It's always brilliant to read about other's dogs - especially greyhounds. Your dog blog was a good read - I've not found any other site anywhere near as good on my google travels so far! I especially like the photo for 'Galoot Experiences A Peach Bellini!'
Beautiful bittersweet email all the way from Denmark:
Hello all of you on better than kids. I came across your website when I read an article about the racing industry. I could comment as it was closed for any more comments. I have had my own small organisation since 2006 alerting others to the plight of racing greyhounds and galgoes.I am the fortunate owner of three ex-racing greyhounds and one whippet. two of my greyhounds were traumatised when I first got them. Connor was born in Castil La Mancha in Spain he is the result of two Irish exports and was used for racing at the mobile tracks from where he was likely stolen by gypsies he ended up starving to death in Madrid Spain. Two months later I picked him up at the airport in Copenhagen. Since then two more greyhounds have come home one of them an Irish bred and born I found here in Denmark in a sadly neglected state of being. he was traumatised but with patience love and understanding he is now a happy contented greyhound with life ahead of him. Tristan has his quirks but is a deeply loved family member and he came home to stay I got him fresh from kennels where he had rested in urine soaked blankets he was underweight almost emaciated had a belly full of intestinal parasites his teeth were blackish grey from tartar. No more though. My three greyhounds and one whippet are the love of my life. I am happy to have found this site. Most sincerely..... Greyhound Action Denmark.
Always good to meet Grey owners and find we're not alone...
Just found your Better than Kids website - loved it. Nice to know other people who love dogs more than Kids.
I am enjoying the company of my 4th ex racer. He rejoices in the name of .... and is a bigger handful than all the others put together. Very feisty - wants to chase everything - I have found the best way to walk him is round streets and he is always muzzled. If I take him to playing fields where he can see dogs running he goes ballistic. However he will calm down and at home and with people he is brilliant. Also a VERY good housedog to the delight of my elderly neighbour who says she feels very safe with him next door warning her of strangers around. Have had dogs all my life but Greyhounds are the best.
I am into patchwork and quilting and so mine always have a custom made patchwork/quilted coat for the winter. You sense they enjoy ther admiration this evokes.
Best wishes
